Surfboards By The Greek
Bob "The Greek" Bolen started surfing in 1958 and shaped his first surfboard a year later. In 1960, while a 17 year-old senior at Bolsa Grande High School in Garden Grove, California, Bob opened his first surf shop in nearby Huntington Beach.
Nicknamed “The Greek” by his high school buddies because of his Greek ancestry, he decided to call his new surfboard brand “Surfboards by the Greek.” He designed the original “triangle” logo himself, drawing inspiration from the Parthenon, an ancient Greek temple known for its architectural perfection. Completed in 438 BC, the Parthenon was dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of Athens.
After a brief hiatus, Last Wave is stoked to have Surfboards by the Greek t-shirts back in stock!! The Greek really did us right this time, allowing us to carry the famed triangle logo with the original blue insets! According to Bob, this version of the triangle logo was used only for the laminates he used on his surfboards...it was never printed on t-shirts. Now, for the first time in 65 years, Surfboards by the Greek t-shirts are available with the original blue logo – exclusively from Last Wave! A sincere thanks to Bob “The Greek” Bolen for this unique opportunity...we appreciate it!
Until next time,
Ted
