Surfing Heritage and Culture Center: Preserving and Celebrating Surf History

Posted by

Surf history has always been at the foundation of Last Wave Originals, so we are stoked to announce a new partnership that supports the “Smithsonian of Surfing” - the Surfing Heritage and Culture Center (SHACC) in San Clemente, California. We just added their original logo t-shirt to our collection of classic surf brand apparel…check ‘em out! (link to page) A portion of the proceeds from every sale will go directly to the SHACC, so get a cool new tee and support a great organization!

The SHACC was created in 2000 by well-known surf industry professional and historian Dick Metz. His vision – which became the SHACC’s mission - was clear: “To preserve, protect, and share surfing’s history and culture with the world.”Dick not only donated his amazing collection of surfboards and surf memorabilia, but arranged for significant endowments from a hundred Founding Partners, and the SHACC was off and running. Spencer Croul joined Metz in 2004, adding his extensive collection to the mix and building out their remarkable museum.

Today’s SHACC is constantly creating entertaining and educational exhibits and digital content. It also hosts two unique events each year, recognizing the influencers in surf culture.Adapting to the unprecedented changes that have occurred since March of this year, the SHACC quickly went virtual. With a lot of help from anincredible board of directors and advisory council, the SHACC is reimagining how it collects and shares the stories, characters, equipment, photography and print that authentically represents the rich, colorful history of the surf lifestyle. Immerse yourself in those memories by visiting the SHACC website at www.shacc.org or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/surfingheritage andInstagramhttps://www.instagram.com/surfingheritage.

"Surfing, alone among sports, generates laughter at its very suggestion, and this is because it turns not a skill into an art, but an inexplicable and useless urge into a vital way of life." -Matt Warshaw
